Q: Why do you keep doing the backstroke?

A: I've just had lunch and don't want to swim on a full stomach.

WHO WE ARE:

Whangamata SLSC was officially formed on 1 December 1949; at this time we had only 6 Volunteer Lifeguards to patrol the beach. Since then the number of qualified volunteers has risen to 87, we now have some of the best club facilities within Surf Life Saving New Zealand, and we offer full time professional patrols during the peak summer period.

Trust Waikato Whangamata SLSC is committed to striving for excellence in providing the highest levels of professionalism to the public who use Whangamata's aquatic environment.

Whangamata SLSC constantly leads the way for other clubs in New Zealand. Did you know Whangamata was the first Surf Club in New Zealand to successfully revive a victim using a Heart Start Defibrillator (shock machine).

Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club prides itself on its surf lifesaving Patrols, and has been rewarded with the Surf Life Saving Bay of Plenty 'Patrol Efficiency' Award (core business cup) for three consecutive years, as well as receiving the Fulton Hogan Rescue of the Year two of the last three seasons.
