Trust Waikato Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club is committed to the prevention of drowning and injury in and around the aquatic environment of Whangamata through the provision of lifeguarding, water safety, and education services. PURPOSE

Whangamata SLSC was officially formed on 1 December 1949; at this time we had only 6 Volunteer Lifeguards to patrol the beach. Since then the number of qualified volunteers has risen to 87, we now have some of the best club facilities within Surf Life Saving New Zealand, and we offer full time professional patrols during the peak summer period.

Whangamata SLSC constantly leads the way for other clubs in New Zealand. Did you know Whangamata was the first Surf Club in New Zealand to successfully revive a victim using a Heart Start Defibrillator (shock machine).
Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club prides itself on its surf lifesaving Patrols,and has been rewarded with the Surf Life Saving Bay of Plenty 'Patrol Efficiency' Award (core business cup) for two consective years, as well as receiving the Fulton Hogan Rescue of the Year for a second time in a row.
