JUNIOR SURF AT WHANGAMATA
2023 – 2024 Season
You can register at the Club shop from 11am-1pm Saturday 21 and from 8.30am Sunday 22 October 2023.
Shop Hours:
- Labour weekend – The shop is open Saturday 11am-1pm & Sunday 8.30am until around 11am for Junior Surf registrations
- Every Sunday Labour weekend until 17 December open for around 2 hours
- Shop is open 5 days a week from 20 December until 28 January (Wednesday to Sunday -excluding public holidays) for around 2 hours

Junior Surf Dates
Shoulder season
Every Sunday 10am-12pm from Labour weekend until 17 December 2023
Peak season
5 days per week 10am-12pm (Wednesday to Sunday – excluding public holidays) from 20 December 2023 until 28 January 2024.

There is potential for more Junior Surf sessions each Sunday in February until the end of March as we are looking to extend the season but a decision on what that looks like is yet to be decided.

FEES
- Junior Surf (5-13 Years) $65.00
- Cadet (10-12 Years) additional $50.00*
- Pathway (9 + Years) additional $135.00*

*These funds are used to replenish the uniforms provided and assist with coaching costs and incidentals
GROUPS
During the season children will participate in one of the following groups based on their birth date and age as of 30 Sept 2023.
Please note: The Cadet & Pathway programmes start on 20 December, prior to this these age children are part of the standard Junior Surf programme. For information on the Rookie programme click here
Nippers
5 to 6 years
10 am – 11 am
7 – 9 years
10 am – 11.45 am
Learning about rips, waves and staying safe in the water this programme helps kids be ‘surf smart’ and not only helps keep them safe but their friends as well. These sessions will involve no ocean activities.
Children will be signed out from Junior Surf at 11:00 am and parents can take boogie boards to the beach with their children for free time. Coaches will be present on the water’s edge but children are signed out of Junior surf and the responsibility of parents.
Cadets
10 to 12 years
10 am – 11.45 am
Building on skills from Nippers whilst being involved in more water-based activities.
Pathway
9+ years
4 pm – 5 pm
These sessions are offered in addition to Junior Surf and aim to take skills and confidence in the water to the next level, giving potential athletes the opportunity to build their land and ocean skills to a point where they can move up to the Oceans group in Life Saving Sport (see here for details). Knee boarding skills and swimming and key aspects of this programme.
Requirements for Junior Surf (compulsory)
- Membership sub $65.00
- A skull cap; must always be worn on the head. Free when joining, replacements $15.00.
- High viz vest $30.00 purchase at the club shop. These ensure all children are easily seen and must be worn at every session, when competing, or using any club equipment.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PATHWAY PROGRAMME
- Junior Surf membership $65.00 Pathway fee $135-00 (contribution to coaching costs and gear usage)
- A high viz vest must be worn in the water
- Must hold a current 200-meter safety badge (swim test)
